Taking a trip to the Stedelijk museum was very opening in the sense that there was, I felt, a larger cohort of artwork that I could relate to compared to the Tate Modern. One of the artists I discovered was Tetsumi Kudo who creates sculptures that depict the horrors of the Hiroshima and Nagasaki bombings. Their work often juxtaposed normal everyday objects with grotesque dismembered body parts in order to emphasise the gravity of the effects on the lives of normal civilians. What stuck out to me was their manipulation of light to create a completely different atmosphere within the piece and the gallery and will be something that I investigate in my practice.
