Summer Exhibition - Chiharu Shiota

Over the summer I visited Chiharu Shiota's exhibition in Tokyo's Mori Art museum. The exhibition was a record of all her works and ranged from her earliest pieces in the1990s to the her most current. There was one piece in particular which I personally felt resonated with me the most in terms of what I hope to create, the piece "Accumulation: Searching for Destination" is an installation utilising suitcases tied to red threads and takes up the entire gallery space. Not only was the scale of it overwhelming, but it incorporated kinetic movement where some of the randomly chosen suitcases would teeter, creating a dreamlike and surreal experience for the viewer.
