Our whole class visited Margate to view this year's Turner Prize nominees at the Turner contemporary. One particular artist who stood out to me was Tai Shani, mainly the mediums she uses and how she utilises them to create a whole range of textures in her installation. She also takes advantage of both visual and auditory senses as she reads out a poem as accompaniment when viewing this installation. We were also taken to see the Gossamer exhibition at the Carl Freedman Gallery, which exhibits work made primarily out of pantyhose. I was surprised to see that quite a few artists have chosen to exhibit pantyhose sculptures in organic/ human forms, particularly Polly Borland who's photography combines her own body with stuffed pantyhose to create a whole new uncannily human sculpture. This has influenced me to maybe move into film/ photography where I interact with my sculptures?
